HP coming out with high-speed, high-quality 3D printer

Meg Whitman said that HP will come out with 3D printing products that are faster and higher quality than the solutions that are on offer today.

While the news reports provide no details, I think it's safe to assume that their offerings will leverage their expertise in existing and in-development inkjet technology.

My bet would be that HP has been looking at Memjet technology (which I mentioned here) for quite some time, and will be applying it toward a "polyjet" solution similar to the Objet/Connex style printers, but with a much higher throughput, and better layer alignment.

Don't expect these printers to be at Staples anytime soon, though.  She has clearly stated that it's aimed for the enterprise market, which is where the big money is at.  Eventually, the technology should trickle down to consumers -- but that may be a decade away!
